ROUND TRIP BASKET
"The inspiration for this design came from a vintage basket found in the United States, possibly from the 1940s or 1950s. In the days when live chickens were sold for meat in the market, it was said this basket was used to carry several chickens together for distribution. It was well structured with conveniences such as being able to collect eggs easily when hens lay eggs or a plate where the price and identification number could be written. We also liked the iron key for locking which had an industrial feel. Because the original chicken basket was quite heavy, this basket we created was made about two sizes smaller to be used as a storage item at home. We also removed the inner partitions to make the inside wider. Although it is manufactured in China, the material is willow just like it was made in the old times. Women are weaving the baskets by hand next to a big willow field."
